Washington, D.C. to Require Job Listings That Disclose Pay Information

The District of Columbia has enacted an ordinance that will require employers to disclose in job listings the projected minimum and maximum hourly rate or salary for the position. The ordinance takes effect June 30, 2024.

Washington D.C. voters approve measure to phase out tipped credit

On Nov. 7, 2022, voters in Washington D.C. voted overwhelmingly to phase out by 2027 the tipped employee credit that employers are currently allowed to take when paying its tipped employees.  Measure 82 was approved by over 71 percent of the voters.

Washington, D.C. expands Paid Family Leave Program

 The expansion of the District of Columbia’s paid family leave benefits took effect Oct. 1, 2022. The changes could have taken effect as soon as July 1, 2022, but they were delayed until Oct. 1, 2022.

Washington, D.C. enacts employment protections for cannabis use

The District of Columbia has enacted legislation (B24-109) prohibiting employers from taking adverse action against an applicant or employee for the off-duty, lawful use of cannabis. The law also includes additional protections for medical cannabis users and a new notice requirement for employers.

Washington DC announces increase to minimum wage

Washington D.C. to expand Paid Family Leave program

The District of Columbia’s chief financial officer has announced that there is already sufficient funding in a program offering paid family leave benefits to eligible employees to expand it and to reduce the employer contribution rate. As a result of the announcement, the changes will be implemented as soon as July 1, 2022.

Washington, D.C. extends vaccination-leave requirement, DCFMLA changes

The District of Columbia has enacted legislation that will extend a requirement that employers provide paid leave to employees for the time they, or their minor child, spend obtaining and recovering from COVID-19 vaccination. The legislation also extends an expansion of the D.C. Family and Medical Leave Act (DCFMLA). These changes were set to expire on Feb. 3, 2022.

Washington, D.C. requires paid leave for vaccination, extends DCFMLA changes

The District of Columbia has enacted emergency legislation (B24-404) requiring employers to provide paid leave to employees for the time they, or their minor child, spend obtaining and recovering from COVID-19 vaccination. These changes took effect immediately on November 18, 2021 and expire on February 3, 2022, unless extended.
