Indiana to Repeal Registration Requirement for Employing Minors

Indiana has enacted legislation that will repeal a law requiring employers to register with the Indiana Department of Labor when they employ five or more minors. The repeal results from the enactment of House Bill 1302 and takes effect on July 1, 2026.

Indiana Amends Its Employment-Eligibility-Verification Law

Indiana has enacted legislation that will amend state law to expressly prohibit employers from knowingly or intentionally recruiting, hiring, or continuing to employ an individual who is unauthorized to work. The amended law will also establish certain protections under state law for employers that engage in “reasonable diligence” (as defined) to verify new hires are authorized to work.

Indiana Announces Changes to New Hire Reporting Requirements

As a result of Indiana Senate Bill 148  employers will be required to file reports of newly hired and rehired employees electronically.

Additionally, employers will be required to provide new data elements on all reports of newly hired or rehired employees.

Indiana Enacts Legislation Impacting Income Tax on Non-Residents and Tax Withholding Penalties

Indiana has enacted S419, which impacts tax withholding on non-residents and penalties in relation to deficient tax withholding by employers.  

Indiana updates state withholding certificate

This notice is to inform you that the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) has issued a revised version of Departmental Notice #1, which includes a change to their state withholding calculation effective Oct. 1, 2022.  To accommodate the change to the withholding calculation, the DOR has revised the Indiana “Employee’s Withholding Exemption and County Status Certificate” commonly known as Form WH-4.
