Connecticut law requires employers with 50 or more employees to provide paid sick leave to hourly “service employees” for the following reasons:
- Their own illness, injury, or health condition; the medical diagnosis or treatment of a condition; or preventative care.
- Their child's or spouse's illness, injury, or health condition; the medical diagnosis or treatment of their child's or spouse's condition; or preventative care for a child or spouse.
- Victims of family violence or sexual assault are entitled to paid leave for medical care or counseling, to obtain services from a victim services organization, to relocate because of the incident, or to participate in any civil or criminal proceedings related to the incident.
|
Eligible service employees may also use paid sick leave for the following reasons:
- A day during which a service worker attends to their emotional and psychological well-being in lieu of attending a regularly scheduled shift.
- If they are a parent or guardian of a child who is a victim of family violence or sexual assault, provided the employee isn’t the (alleged) perpetrator.
