The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Nepal will not be extended and will be terminated, effective Aug.  5, 2025, which is 60 days after the publication in the Federal Register.

Next steps

·      The Federal Register notice specifically confirms that EADs granted to Nepali TPS beneficiaries will also be automatically extended through the sixty-day notice period.

·      To verify their continued employment authorization through this transition period, Nepali TPS beneficiaries can present their Employment Authorization Documents (EADs), which should have the notation A-12 or C-19 under the category section and a “Card Expires” date of date of June 24, 2018, June 24, 2019, March 24, 2020, Jan. 4, 2021, Oct.  4, 2021, Dec. 31, 2022, June 30, 2024, or June 24, 2025, as valid through Aug.  5, 2025.  Forms I-9 should then be updated to reflect the new expiration date of Aug.  5, 2025.

·      After Aug. 5, 2025 impacted employees will also need to be reverified by updating Forms I-9 as applicable.
