Overview: On March 8, 2019, the Governor of Virginia signed into law House Bill 2473 which revised the types of jobs that are included and excluded from the protections of the Virginia state minimum wage law.
Effective Date: July 1, 2019
Details: Effective July 1, 2019, the following jobs now must be paid the state minimum wage per hour. The state minimum wage currently mirrors the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.
- newsboys
- shoe-shine boys
- babysitters
- ushers
- doormen
- concession attendants
- cashiers in theaters
A caddy on a golf course was added to the jobs excluded from the minimum wage requirement.
