Washington, DC expands DCFMLA, requires paid leave for COVID-19 updated

The District of Columbia has enacted an emergency ordinance that requires employers with 50-499 employees to provide paid leave to employees impacted by COVID-19. The emergency ordinance also temporarily expands the D.C. Family and Medical Leave Act (DCFMLA). The emergency ordinance took effect immediately and has been extended until November 16, 2020.

The District of Columbia has enacted an emergency ordinance that requires employers with 50-499 employees to provide paid leave to employees impacted by COVID-19. The emergency ordinance also temporarily expands the D.C. Family and Medical Leave Act (DCFMLA). The emergency ordinance took effect immediately and expires on August 25, 2020.

DC to require paid voting leave

The District of Columbia has enacted legislation (Act 23-301) that will require employers to provide paid voting leave.

The District of Columbia has enacted legislation (Act 23-305) that will require employers offering parking benefits to offer employees a transportation benefit, pay a fee, or implement a plan to reduce commuting to work by car.

The District of Columbia has enacted an emergency ordinance that requires employers with 50-499 employees to provide paid leave to employees impacted by COVID-19. The emergency ordinance takes effect immediately and expires on July 9, 2020.

Washington, D.C. expands FMLA, unemployment eligibility in response to COVID-19

The District of Columbia has enacted the COVID-19 Response Emergency Amendment Act of 2020 (the "Act"), which temporarily expands the D.C. Family and Medical Leave Act (DCFMLA) and temporarily expands eligibility for unemployment benefits for employees impacted by COVID-19. The law is effective immediately and is set to expire on June 15, 2020, but it could be extended through further legislation.

District of Columbia is implementing Paid Family Leave

The District of Columbia is implementing Paid Family Leave.  Among the requirements, the District will collect taxes from all private sector employers located in the District to fund the Paid Family Leave benefit.  This requires employers to begin recording workers’ wages on April 1, 2019. 

DC Approves New Employment Protections for Victims of Domestic Violence

The District of Columbia has enacted legislation (Act A22-0609) that will provide additional employment protections to victims and family members of victims of domestic violence, sexual offenses, and stalking. Act A22-0609 applies to all employers.
