California enacted Senate Bill 970 establishing a minimum threshold for human trafficking awareness training and education in the hospitality industry.

Minimum Wage Update for Various Jurisdictions

Various jurisdictions have increased their minimum wage rates. If applicable, you must increase the pay rate for exempt and/or non-exempt employees to meet the new minimum wage. For New York, the pay rate increase is effective on or before December 31, 2018. For all other jurisdictions and federal contractors, the increase is effective on or before January 1, 2019. An updated poster is not required provided that the employer has the most recent poster already on display. If needed, employers should order a new minimum wage poster. The minimum wage rate is based on the employee’s work location.

California Raises Minimum Pay Requirements for Certain Exemptions for 2019

The California Department of Industrial Relations has announced an increase to the pay rates computer software employees and physicians must receive in order to be exempt from overtime. Additionally, the minimum salary required for the administrative, professional, and executive exemptions will increase at the start of the year. These new rates take effect on January 1, 2019.

California Issues Emergency Regulation for Electronic Submission of 300A Forms by December 31, 2018

California employers with 250 or more employees per establishment or employers with 20-249 employees in certain identified industries (which is the same as Federal OSHA) must electronically submit to the Federal OSHA website by December 31, 2018 and then each year thereafter.

San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance Poster

San Francisco has amended its Fair Chance Ordinance, which restricts the use of criminal histories to make employment decisions. The FCO poster is now available and must be posted immediately.
