Connecticut Increases Minimum Wage for Workers Who Care for People with Disabilities

Under a measure signed May 9 by Gov. Daniel P. Malloy (D), workers who care for those with intellectual disabilities at group homes and day programs are to be paid an hourly minimum wage of at least $15.

The measure applies to private providers of state-contracted employment, day and behavioral services and group-home services.

Coverage: Employers in Connecticut with employees who care for those with intellectual disabilities at group homes and day programs.

Effective: July 1, 2018

Action Required: Covered employers should review and, if necessary, revise their payroll practices to confirm compliance with this new law.
