New York has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 3255), which increases the time to file a complaint of unlawful discrimination with the Division of Human Rights from one year to three years. Senate Bill 3255 takes effect on Feb. 15, 2024.

Senate Bill 3255 amends Section 297 of the New York Executive Law, by extending the time a complaint of any unlawful discriminatory practice may be filed with the New York State Division of Human Rights to three years. The law’s three-year statute of limitations will apply to all claims of unlawful discrimination that occur on (or after) Feb. 15, 2024.
