We want to let you know that the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) has released guidance on the New York Retail Worker Safety Act.
New York City has amended rules under the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act (ESSTA) relating to paid personal prenatal leave. The new rules are effective July 2, 2025.
On May 9, 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law an amendment that modifies the penalties associated with employers failing to pay manual workers on a weekly basis. The amended law was effective as of the date of the Governor’s signature and is retroactive, applying to any pending legal claims.
New York enacted legislation (Assembly Bill A8947C), which added workplace violence prevention requirements for employers. New York has also enacted legislation (Senate Bill S740), to help clarify these requirements. The laws’ workplace violence prevention policy and training requirements take effect on June 2, 2025 and the silence response button (SRB) requirements take effect on Jan. 1, 2027.
