The Virginia General Assembly has delayed a scheduled increase to the minimum wage.

Assembly Bill 395 increases Virginia's minimum wage in phases. The first scheduled increase was set to take place on January 1, 2021. However, the General Assembly has announced a delay to allow employers more time to recover from COVID-19.

Updated Minimum Wage Schedule:

With limited exceptions, the minimum wage rate will increase according to the following schedule:

May 1

January 1

Rate per hour

Compliance Recommendations:

Beginning May 1, 2021, Virginia employers must pay all non-exempt employees at least $9.50 per hour. Virginia employers must also post an updated minimum wage notice in a conspicuous area of the workplace. Please contact your dedicated service professional with any questions.
