Rhode Island has enacted legislation (House Bill 5130A) that will raise the state's minimum wage in phases, eventually reaching $15 per hour.
Minimum Wage Schedule:
The minimum wage will increase as follows:
- $12.25 per hour on January 1, 2022
- $13.00 per hour on January 1, 2023
- $14.00 per hour on January 1, 2024
- $15.00 per hour on January 1, 2025
Tipped employees:
The cash minimum wage for tipped employees will remain at $3.89 per hour. Employers must ensure that tipped employees' direct cash wages plus tips equal or exceed the minimum wage per hour.
Compliance Recommendations:
Rhode Island employers must pay all non-exempt employees at least the minimum wage and display a poster reflecting the new minimum wage. Please contact your dedicated service professional with any questions.
