California amends rules for reporting serious workplace injuries

California has enacted legislation (Assembly Bill 1804) that will amend rules for reporting an employee's serious injury, illness, or death to the state. The state also enacted legislation (Assembly Bill 1805) that will amend the definition of "serious injury or illness." Both laws take effect Jan. 1, 2020.

California Delays Deadline for Expanded Harassment Training Requirement

California has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 778) that will delay the expansion of the state's requirement to provide sexual harassment training.

California to extend paid family leave benefits

California has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 83) that will increase the maximum duration of paid family leave benefits.

California bans hairstyle discrimination

California has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 188) that will expressly prohibit employers from discriminating against and harassing applicants and employees because of hair texture and hairstyles that are historically associated with race. Senate Bill 188 takes effectJanuary 1, 2020.

The California Labor Commissioner’s Office has issued guidance on the new pay schedule for agricultural workers under the Phase-In Overtime for Agricultural Workers Act of 2016 that took effect January 1, 2019.
