Austin, Texas Paid Sick Leave Put on Hold

A Texas appeals court has temporarily blocked Austin’s Paid Sick Leave ordinance from taking effect on October 1, 2018, while the ordinance is challenged.

Austin, Texas Passes Paid Sick and Safe Leave Law

The Austin City Council has passed an ordinance requiring employers to provide paid sick and safe leave for employers with six or more employees, making Austin the first city in the South to enact this type of law. The new law will take effect for employers with six or more employees on October 1, 2018. It will not impact employers with five or fewer employees until October 1, 2020.

Texas Bans Texting While Driving

Texas is the 47th state to join the fray of states enacting statewide bans on texting while driving. The new law prohibits drivers from reading, writing, or sending electronic messages unless the vehicle is stopped.

Austin, Texas Passes Ordinance Banning Pre-Offer Inquiry into Applicant’s Criminal History – Reminder for all Clients Regarding Background Check Consent Form

Austin, Texas has enacted a city ordinance prohibiting employers from asking about or considering a job applicant’s criminal history before making a conditional offer of employment. Austin is the first city in the South to enact such a “Fair Chance” or “Ban the Box” law.  Please be reminded that clients taking advantage of ADP Screening and Selection Services should use the most recent version of the Background Check Consent Form which is available in the Forms Library in My TotalSource in the pre-employment section.
