Kentucky Allows Medicinal Use of Cannabis

Kentucky has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 47) that will allow adults to use medicinal cannabis for certain medical conditions beginning in 2025. The law also addresses employers’ rights regarding medicinal cannabis.

Kentucky to require COVID-19 plan

Kentucky has enacted legislation (House Bill 1) that would require employers to create and post a plan for COVID-19 if they wish to provide in-person services. House Bill 1 was set to take effect immediately after the legislature overrode a veto by the governor, but a court temporarily blocked the implementation of the law while a legal challenge from the governor is heard.

Kentucky employers must be represented by counsel in unemployment compensation hearings

Non-lawyers may no longer represent employers in unemployment compensation hearings in Kentucky, the Kentucky Court of Appeals has ruled. Nichols v. Kentucky Unemployment Commission, et al.No. 2017-CA-001156-MR, 2019 Ky. App. LEXIS 73 (Ky Ct. App. Apr. 26, 2019).
