Pittsburgh Adds Medical Marijuana Patient Protections

The Pittsburgh City Council has passed Ordinance 2024-0705 (the Ordinance), which prohibits employers from discriminating against medical marijuana patients in the workplace and limits certain marijuana drug testing of these patients. The Ordinance is effective immediately.

Pennsylvania - Lehigh County Adds Nondiscrimination, Salary History and Criminal Record Protections

Pennsylvania Updates Protected Characteristic Definitions; Adds Hairstyle Protections

The Pennsylvania Independent Regulatory Review Commission has approved amendments to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act (PHRA), which provide new definitions of race, sex and religious creed, and effectively protect against hairstyle discrimination. The new rules are set to take effect within 60 days of their publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.

Pennsylvania Adopts Final Rule on Regular Rate for Salaried Non-Exempt and Tipped Employees

Pennsylvania - Allegheny County announces paid sick leave effective date

01/06/22

Update: Allegheny County has posted its paid sick leave ordinance, noticeguidelines and FAQs to its website. Although the Ordinance required employers’ notice obligations to begin immediately once the law was approved, and for the other provisions of the ordinance to take effect 90 calendar days after the notice was posted, the County has changed the effective date of all parts of the ordinance to be December 15, 2021.
