Illinois requires masks indoors regardless of vaccination status

The Illinois Department of Public Health has issued an emergency rule that generally requires employees to wear masks indoors, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status. The emergency rule took effect August 30, 2021.

Connecticut requires voting leave

Arizona's minimum wage to increase for 2022

New York City approves COVID-19 vaccination entry requirements

New York City Mayor, Bill DeBlasio, has signed an Order (Emergency Executive Order 225) that requires businesses to ensure that individuals are vaccinated before allowing them to enter the premises. The Order is effective immediately.

Nevada enacts right to return law for certain workers laid off during COVID-19

Beginning July 1, 2021, under the Nevada Hospitality and Travel Workers Right to Return Act, certain employers in the casino, hospitality, stadium, and travel industries must offer their former employees laid off or furloughed due to the COVID-19 pandemic the opportunity to return to work. The Act also requires notice to employees who will be laid off that is different from a federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice, if a WARN notice is required.

Duluth, Minnesota amends its paid sick leave ordinance

On July 19, 2021, Duluth Mayor Emily Larson signed File No. 21-23-0, which expands the reasons that leave may be used under Duluth’s Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) ordinance and expands on the notice requirement. The amendment to the ESST are effective Aug. 19, 2021.

Iowa Permits Employers to Provide Employee Wage Statements by Electronic Means

Previously, employers were required to mail wage statements, provide them at the place of employment, or provide employees with the means to view and print an electronic wage statement at the workplace. Per House Bill 2240, employers are now allowed to provide wage statements to employees via secure electronic transmission or other secure electronic means.

If the employee is unable to receive his or her wage statement electronically, the employee must notify the employer in writing at least one pay period in advance, and the employer must:
  • Send the statement to the employee by mail;
  • Provide the statement to the employee at the employee’s normal place of business during normal employment hours; or
  • Provide the employee access to view the employee earnings statement electronically and provide the employee free and unrestricted access to a printer to print the statement.

Effective: July 1, 2018
