Washington, DC expands DCFMLA, requires paid leave for COVID-19: updated

The District of Columbia has enacted an emergency ordinance that requires employers with 50-499 employees to provide paid leave to employees impacted by COVID-19. The emergency ordinance also temporarily expands the D.C. Family and Medical Leave Act (DCFMLA). The emergency ordinance took effect immediately and expires on August 25, 2020.

Washington bans hairstyle discrimination

Colorado requires paid leave

Colorado protects workers who raise COVID-19 concerns

Colorado has enacted legislation (House Bill 20-1415) that prohibits employers from taking adverse action against a worker who raises safety or health concerns related to a public health emergency or who voluntarily wears their own personal protective equipment (PPE). Iowa Permits Employers to Provide Employee Wage Statements by Electronic Means

Previously, employers were required to mail wage statements, provide them at the place of employment, or provide employees with the means to view and print an electronic wage statement at the workplace. Per House Bill 2240, employers are now allowed to provide wage statements to employees via secure electronic transmission or other secure electronic means.

If the employee is unable to receive his or her wage statement electronically, the employee must notify the employer in writing at least one pay period in advance, and the employer must:
  • Send the statement to the employee by mail;
  • Provide the statement to the employee at the employee’s normal place of business during normal employment hours; or
  • Provide the employee access to view the employee earnings statement electronically and provide the employee free and unrestricted access to a printer to print the statement.

Effective: July 1, 2018
